How SFFFK Gets Results
With your help, the Sanctuary Friends Foundation of the Florida Keys (SFFFK) can help to save the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. SFFFK excels in creating important change on the ground — and under the sea. Our team knows how to blend the best science with a commitment to working with local communities and industries to preserve crucial ecosystems and seascapes.

Your gift will have a real impact today. It is an investment in the future of our National Treasure which holds the distinction of having the only living coral reef. SFFFK is a making a real difference using these techniques:
Cutting-Edge Science
SFFFK support the scientists within the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, who are analyzing the impacts of climate changes on our Coral Reef and how to figure out where and how the ocean surrounding the FKNMS is changing. Working with policy-makers we are charting a more effective path to conservation for the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.
Conservation Solutions
Education and outreach are major tools for managing the marine resources of the Sanctuary, as well as reaching people who impact those resources. The Florida Keys is home to 130,000 residents in the winter, as well as, three million annual visitors. Many of which enjoy our sanctuary by snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, or relaxing in the tropical environment of the Florida Keys. Some of the educational tools we use are the following:

    • The Coral Reef Classroom Project has provided free educational excursions to the reef for over 4,000 local students and teachers since 1991. • Team OCEAN is an on-the-water education and information program that protects the Sanctuary’s natural marine resources, while enriching the experiences of visitors. • Florida Keys Ecotourism Initiative (FKEI). The FKEI is created with the purpose of not only to reach the communities of the Florida Keys, but to reach far inland where some of the problems that affect the health of the ocean begin. • Supporting Coral Restoration and Mitigation projects, SFFFK assists coral transplantation efforts in both the establishment of coral nurseries, and by saving and moving corals put at risk by shoreline construction projects. • Supporting Mooring Buoys maintenance and installation. Buoys are designed to protect our coral reefs.

With your help, SFFFK will continue its mission to support the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary in the preservation, restoration, and sustainable use of our coral reef and marine ecosystems. We focus on development of community support and advancement of public scientific research.. Please donate now.
